A momentous 2023. And more to come.

In anticipation of a promising year 2024, let’s take a moment to reflect on 2023 - a significant milestone as Jeppesen celebrated 15 years of engagement in FRM. Throughout this period, our commitment to applying cutting-edge science has truly made a tangible impact on reducing the fatigue risk exposure for our operators.

Since pioneering the usage of fatigue models in crew planning with Finnair, more than a decade has already passed. Last year witnessed Air India, GOL, Vueling, and Transavia all embracing advanced fatigue model usage. The approach of proactively reducing and distributing risk in crew planning goes far beyond traditional rule usage, providing a more nuanced consideration of fatigue.

The collaborative spirit of 2023 was evident in our well-attended CDP conference in Gothenburg, the CONNECT event in Barcelona, and the User’s Conference in Washington. All of these were record-breaking gatherings, underscoring the added value of physical meetings in sharing experiences and fostering creativity, with virtual meetings complementing rather than replacing these interactions.

Despite being more than 30 years into our research and development journey, 2023 saw continued improvements in optimization in the crew pairing and rostering domain. Notable improvements also included enhancements in analytics, a sleek new Concert user interface, refined BAM capabilities, and the publication of initial results from our platform enabling large-scale quantification of FTL Effectiveness (refer to these articles for more details: Chapter 12 , 3 , 4).

Within Jeppesen Scheduling Safety, we welcomed four new members to our team, instilling confidence that the advancements made in 2024 will be equally noteworthy when we reflect on this exciting year a year from now.
