As airline operations ramp up after the pandemic, although slowly and with new disruptions evolving as this is being written, many operators are at times short of crew. This can be on a level severely impacting operations, even resulting in flight cancellations making news headlines.
Such crew shortages often lead to more challenging rosters - and this at a time when many crew members are not comfortable speaking up over excessive workload, out of job-security concerns.
Fatigue reports will only reflect one side of the coin - informing the airline on what went wrong, for crew comfortable sharing their details, and investing the time. There will be no 'alertness reports' to balance this with from other crew in similar roster patterns who feel good. This blurs the view considerably.
A wider data collection, where all participating crew is anonymously reporting bothalert and sleepy conditions, will result in much more nuanced and representative data. There is now a way to perform such data collections easily and inexpensively in a secure way for all parties.
Please take a look at CrewAlert TOD in the Apple Appstore, or Google Play, for learning more. Let us know if you like a discussion on gauging your operation, also continuously, for learning more about your true fatigue risk.
