Crew planning is a true balancing act making sure both short and long-term needs are adequatley addressed regarding the airline's financial health and the wellbeing of its crew. This includes managing stressors that otherwise may lead to stress, and later symptoms of stress. There are many mechanisms and helpful tricks available for avoiding that.
Not that long ago, Jeppesen was invited to present at a Royal Aeronautical Society conference called 'Mental wellbeing and human performance, moving beyond regulatory compliance'. The idea was to share information regarding best practicies for crew planning, employed throughout the industry. Practices that goes far beyond only using the flight and duty time limitations.
In the absence of a video recording, we would like to share the slide deck of the presentation that had the ambitious title 'The crew roster - and what we've learned over the past two decades'. Learn more from that material about 'going the extra mile' when it comes to planning airline crew. A mile not yet crowded. You will find the full presentation here.
