Azul, Brazil’s largest airline by departures and cities served, and a fleet of over 180 aircraft, has adopted the Boeing Alertness Model (BAM) to enhance its crew planning processes.
“After careful evaluation with the Jeppesen team, we found BAM to significantly enhance our ability to manage fatigue risk for our flight crew,” said Alessandro Conconi, General Manager Crew Planning, at Azul. “BAM integrates seamlessly with our crew planning optimizers, enabling real-time alertness management in our schedules. This goes beyond what can be achieved by relying solely on regulatory compliance.”
Magnus Ek, Senior FRM Optimization Expert at Jeppesen, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration: “It has been both exciting and rewarding to work alongside Azul’s skilled crew planning team. They face a complex optimization challenge, and it’s gratifying to see how incorporating fatigue risk upfront can make a meaningful difference compared to post-planning adjustments.”
